Who We Are
Heather Burleson
Heather is a Data Coach for the Strengthening Early Education through Data-coaching (SEED) Program. In this role, she supports a coalition of local education agencies (LEAs) in elevating their early childhood programs through evidence-based, data-driven approaches and change management systems.
Before joining the team in November 2023, Heather was the Teacher Development Officer for Pre-K and Literacy Labs at BakerRipley Community Schools, where she crafted curriculum, designed and facilitated professional development, and coached teachers and school admin toward improving student outcomes. Additionally, she supported implementation of Commissioner-approved curriculum and reading instruments for both Pre-K and Kindergarten, and led district-wide initiatives about social-emotional learning for both students and teachers. A Teach For America (TFA)—Houston alumna, Heather has trained over 6 cohorts of new teachers through TFA’s Summer Institute and notably helped lead the first Institute cohort with early childhood-specific programming in 2015 and 2016.
Heather is a certified PK-8 Teacher and earned her Master of Arts in Teaching with distinction from Relay Graduate School of Education. She is a Rice University Early Literacy Leadership Academy (ELLA) graduate and serves as a mentor teacher through their Advanced Leadership program. Heather loves to read, needlepoint, and spend time with her husband and two children in her free time.
