On-Demand Learning:
Data-Driven Instruction Best Practices Modules

Overview

The Early Childhood Assessment Support (ECAS) Initiative partnered with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and regional Education Service Centers (ESCs) on a project to create asynchronous, on-demand learning modules focused on Data-Driven Instruction Best Practices (DDIBP), based on the Commissioner-approved Kindergarten Literacy Screeners.

Purpose

This library of grant-funded, free resources will help to assist local education agencies (LEAs) and Texas stakeholders in understanding the purpose and usefulness of Commissioner-approved Kindergarten Literacy Screeners, and gain research-based best practices regarding the use of the literacy screeners, as well as the data obtained from them.

DDIBP Project Goal

The goal of these modules is to provide additional support, training, and information in the following areas:

  • Create awareness of assessment requirements and tool selection/adoption
  • Support implementation of assessments with fidelity
  • Support use of data to drive instruction
  • Support data submission

DDIBP Modules are:

  • on-demand
  • easily accessible
  • research-based
  • grant-funded and free-of-charge

These research-based learning videos are easily accessible, on-demand, and organized into modules to assist LEAs and Texas stakeholders with the continual implementation of one of the Commissioner-approved Kindergarten Literacy Screeners. Each module contains several topics that expand on various elements within that module.

Assessment Administration Best Practices

This module contains topics that build schema and background knowledge regarding literacy screeners, as well as providing best practice recommendations for administering assessments with fidelity.

Data Collection Best Practices

This module contains topics that build schema and background knowledge regarding progress monitoring, provides a deep dive into the expectations regarding the Texas Education Agency’s collection of data to be used with the Assessment-Instructional Cycle, and gives guidance regarding the use of reading instruments as a dyslexia screener, as aligned to statute.
