The Early Childhood Assessment Support (ECAS) Initiative is dedicated to helping Texas districts and open-enrollment charters in the 23-24 school year with implementing Commissioner-Approved Assessments. We offer two types of trainings to stakeholders: 1) open-enrollment sessions are open to the public for registration and 2) we have two, special training models to support various district needs. All grant-funded professional development sessions are differentiated, and data-focused to support district and open-enrollment charter needs across the state. Grant-funded sessions are free-of-charge and virtual trainings that are held on Zoom.

mCLASS® Texas Edition and mCLASS Lectura provides a full K–6 assessment solution, enabling you to leverage and connect valuable student data from the beginning of their literacy journey to later grades, reflecting a reliable and valid view of every student’s progression in English and Spanish assessments. The Texas Kindergarten Entry Assessment System (TX-KEA) is the result of a collaborative effort between the US Department of Education, the Texas Education Agency, and the Children’s Learning Institute (CLI) at UTHealth Houston to develop and validate a kindergarten entry assessment that can be reliably administered by kindergarten teachers in Texas at the beginning of the school year. It covers multiple child development domains to provide a holistic understanding of each student and better informs kindergarten teachers about the children in their classes, helping them to design differentiated instruction to meet students’ needs and share information with families.
Throughout the 2023-2024 school year, the ECAS Initiative provided individualized training sessions to LEAs across Texas. We are excited to have partnered with our assessment vendors, Amplify and the Children’s Learning Institute, as well as LEAs for two rounds of ILEAS programming with ECAS grant funding. The ILEAS project has concluded at this time.
The ECAS Initiative provides virtual TOT sessions to instructional leaders across Texas. These TOTs will allow trained instructional leaders to turnkey the sessions to stakeholders in their district or open-enrollment charter. We are excited to partner with our assessment vendors to offer TOTs for mCLASS DIBELS 8, mCLASS Lectura, and Texas Kindergarten Entry Assessment (TX-KEA).
